Hob and oven installation in Surrey
Our hob and oven installation work covers the whole of Surrey, including Woking, Guildford and Esher.
Why hob and oven installation for a Surrey home?
Keen cooks across Surrey often choose a range cooker, which needs a level floor, the right clearances to the units and a stability bracket on gas models.
If your Surrey kitchen has an old ceramic hob with a cracked top, an induction replacement may fit the same cut-out, though the circuit still needs checking.
What does hob and oven installation in Surrey include?
Every kitchen is different, so we confirm the scope in writing. Most jobs of this kind include:
- Appliance models checked against worktop cut-outs, oven housings and existing supplies
- Laminate and wood worktop cut-outs made to the hob template; stone cut-outs by the fabricator
- Gas hobs and cookers connected and tightness tested by a Gas Safe registered engineer
- Induction and ceramic hobs wired to a suitable cooker circuit and tested
- Built-in single and double ovens fixed into housings with their ventilation gaps
- Range cookers levelled, with a stability bracket fitted to gas and dual-fuel models
- Gas supply moved to a new hob position, with pipework tested and made good
- Old hob or oven disconnected safely and taken away for recycling

Kitchens in homes across Surrey
The housing mix across Surrey includes 1930s semis, Victorian and Edwardian villas, detached family houses and new-build estates, so no two kitchen fits are quite alike. 1930s semis often have a narrow kitchen beside the dining room, while larger detached houses and Edwardian villas may have room for an island or a separate utility.
Surrey's water is hard across most of the county, so limescale on taps and boiling water taps is common, and a scale-reducing filter is worth considering. Private roads, long drives and village lanes can be awkward for large lorries, while town-centre flats may need lift bookings and parking permits for delivery day.
Joining the kitchen and dining room in a 1930s semi, often with a peninsula and seating, is a common project. Larger detached houses tend to suit a supply-and-fit kitchen with an island, a boiling water tap, a separate utility and lighting planned in zones.
Rules for hob and oven installation in Surrey
In England, only a Gas Safe registered engineer may fit, connect or move a gas hob, cooker or gas pipework, and the installation is tightness tested afterwards. An induction hob often needs a dedicated cooker circuit; a new circuit is notifiable under Part P, so it is certified through a competent person scheme or building control. Connecting to an existing suitable circuit is not notifiable, but it must still meet BS 7671.
Listed buildings and conservation areas in older towns and villages may need consent for new vents, and flats in managed blocks usually need the freeholder's consent first.
Before you start
- A range cooker needs a level, firm floor and, for gas and dual-fuel models, a stability bracket so it cannot tip when the door is loaded.
- Check the induction hob's power rating against your existing cooker circuit, as induction hobs often need a dedicated circuit from the consumer unit.
- Measure the oven housing against the installation dimensions, including the ventilation gaps at the back or base that the manufacturer requires.
- If the new hob sits away from the existing gas supply, allow for a new pipe run by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
- Ask the Gas Safe engineer for a record of the work and keep it with your home documents, especially if you let a property in Surrey.
- Before buying an induction hob for your Surrey home, check the rating of the cooker circuit at the consumer unit, or ask for it to be checked at the survey.
Questions about hob and oven installation in Surrey
How much does hob and oven installation cost in Surrey?
Hob and oven installation in Surrey typically costs £140 to £340 including VAT for connecting a gas hob to an existing supply, based on prices in the South East. Larger or more involved jobs cost more, and your price is fixed in writing after a free survey visit.
Do you cover the whole of Surrey?
Yes. We carry out hob and oven installation across Surrey, including Woking, Guildford, Esher and Redhill. Every job starts with a free survey visit and an itemised written quote.
Who is allowed to connect a gas hob?
By law, anyone who carries out gas work for payment must be on the Gas Safe Register, in Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and anyone working on gas must be competent to do it. We only use Gas Safe registered engineers, and we strongly advise against fitting a gas hob yourself. The engineer connects the hob, tests the installation for tightness, checks the burners and the room's ventilation, and leaves the appliance safe to use. You can ask to see the engineer's Gas Safe ID card before work starts.
Why does a range cooker need a stability bracket?
Because a range cooker can tip forward if weight is put on an open oven door, which could damage the gas connection or injure someone. Gas and dual-fuel models are secured with a stability bracket or chain to the wall or floor behind, as the manufacturer specifies, and the cooker is levelled on a firm floor so its doors close properly and pans sit flat.
Does an induction hob need a new circuit?
Often, yes. Many induction hobs draw more current than an ordinary socket circuit can supply, so they are wired to a dedicated cooker circuit from the consumer unit. If you already have a cooker circuit of the right rating, the hob can usually connect to it. A new circuit is notifiable in England and Wales, and everywhere it must be tested and certified to BS 7671.
