Kitchen fitters in the Isle of Wight
We fit kitchens across the Isle of Wight: kitchens you have bought from any supplier, or complete kitchens we design, supply and fit, with every trade booked in the right order. Converted Victorian villas can mean a small kitchen with shared services and pipework running through neighbouring flats, so the layout needs careful planning. Many island bungalows are being updated for easier living, with better lighting, practical storage, more drawers and appliances at a comfortable height.
Kitchens in homes across the Isle of Wight
Typical properties here include Victorian seaside villas, stone cottages, post-war bungalows and converted flats. Victorian villas split into flats often have compact kitchens in former bedrooms, while bungalows and cottages tend to have small square kitchens at the back.
Mains water on the Isle of Wight is hard, so limescale on taps, kettles and boiling water taps is common and a filter can help. Kitchen units, worktops and appliances usually cross on the vehicle ferry, so delivery dates and crossing times need planning before the fit is booked.
Rules for kitchen work in the Isle of Wight
Fitting a new kitchen does not need planning permission in England. Listed building consent may be needed if the building is listed, and a new vent through the outside wall of a flat may need planning permission and the freeholder's consent. Electrical work must meet BS 7671, and new circuits or a new consumer unit are notifiable under Part P, so they are certified through a competent person scheme or building control. New extraction should be designed to Approved Document F rates (about 30 litres per second for a hood ducted outside), a refit should not leave ventilation worse than before, and only Gas Safe registered engineers may connect a gas hob.
Listed buildings and conservation areas in the older island towns may need consent for a new external vent, and flat owners usually need the freeholder's written consent.
