Kitchen installation in the Isle of Wight
Our kitchen installation work covers the whole of the Isle of Wight, including Newport, Isle of Wight, Ryde and Cowes.
What prompts kitchen installation in the Isle of Wight?
If you have bought a home in the Isle of Wight with a small galley or a dated back kitchen, a new installation can make far better use of the same space.
A new layout is a common reason to change kitchens in the Isle of Wight: moving the sink under the window, adding an island or opening up to the dining room.

Kitchens in homes across the Isle of Wight
Across the Isle of Wight you will often find Victorian seaside villas, stone cottages, post-war bungalows and converted flats, and each shapes the kitchen differently. Victorian villas split into flats often have compact kitchens in former bedrooms, while bungalows and cottages tend to have small square kitchens at the back.
Mains water on the Isle of Wight is hard, so limescale on taps, kettles and boiling water taps is common and a filter can help. Kitchen units, worktops and appliances usually cross on the vehicle ferry, so delivery dates and crossing times need planning before the fit is booked.
Converted Victorian villas can mean a small kitchen with shared services and pipework running through neighbouring flats, so the layout needs careful planning. Many island bungalows are being updated for easier living, with better lighting, practical storage, more drawers and appliances at a comfortable height.
Rules for kitchen installation in the Isle of Wight
Fitting a new kitchen does not need planning permission in England. Listed building consent may be needed if the building is listed, and a new vent through the outside wall of a flat may need planning permission and the freeholder's consent. Electrical work must meet BS 7671, and new circuits or a new consumer unit are notifiable under Part P, so they are certified through a competent person scheme or building control. New extraction should be designed to Approved Document F rates (about 30 litres per second for a hood ducted outside), a refit should not leave ventilation worse than before, and only Gas Safe registered engineers may connect a gas hob.
Listed buildings and conservation areas in the older island towns may need consent for a new external vent, and flat owners usually need the freeholder's written consent.
Before you start
- Leave every box sealed until the fit; parts get lost or damaged once packaging is opened and stacked around the house.
- Plan for one to two weeks without a working kitchen; a microwave, kettle and a temporary sink elsewhere make it easier.
- If the house was built before 2000, consider an asbestos survey before strip-out, especially with textured ceilings or old floor tiles.
- Decide where the sink, hob and dishwasher go early, because moving them later means repeating plumbing, electrics and tiling.
- Before you order a kitchen for your Isle of Wight home, ask for a survey so the plan is checked against real measurements, not estimates.
- Order stone worktops early in the plan, as templating can only happen once the base units are fixed.
Questions about kitchen installation in the Isle of Wight
How much does kitchen installation cost in the Isle of Wight?
Kitchen installation in the Isle of Wight typically costs £1,700 to £2,900 including VAT for a small kitchen of 5 to 10 units, fit only, based on prices in the South East. Larger or more involved jobs cost more, and your price is fixed in writing after a free survey visit.
Do you cover the whole of the Isle of Wight?
Yes. We carry out kitchen installation across the Isle of Wight, including Newport, Isle of Wight, Ryde, Cowes and Sandown. Every job starts with a free survey visit and an itemised written quote.
Do I need building regulations approval for a new kitchen?
Usually only for parts of the job. Fitting units does not need approval, but new electrical circuits are notifiable in England and Wales, removing a load-bearing wall needs approval everywhere, and in Scotland structural work needs a building warrant. Gas work must always be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
How long does it take to install a kitchen?
Most kitchens take three to twelve days on site to fit, depending on the number of units and whether services are moving. Allow one to three weeks overall once electrics, plumbing, tiling and flooring are included, plus one to two weeks between templating and fitting if you choose stone worktops.
Will you fit a kitchen I have bought myself?
Yes. We fit kitchens bought from any retailer, trade counter or online supplier, flat-pack or rigid. On the survey we check the plan, and before fitting we check the delivery against it. Missing or damaged parts are for the supplier to replace, and we tell you straight away so the fit can be re-planned.
