Kitchen fitters in Cambridgeshire

We fit kitchens across Cambridgeshire: kitchens you have bought from any supplier, or complete kitchens we design, supply and fit, with every trade booked in the right order. Victorian terraces here often have a small rear kitchen, and opening it into the dining room is a common way to gain space. For a Fenland bungalow or farmhouse, the job may also involve levelling uneven floors and packing out walls before the units go in.

Kitchens in homes across Cambridgeshire

Typical properties here include Victorian terraces, 1930s semis, post-war estate houses and fenland bungalows and farmhouses. Terraced houses in Cambridge and Peterborough often have a narrow galley at the back, while Fen bungalows tend to have a simple square kitchen beside the living room.

Water across Cambridgeshire is very hard, so limescale on taps and boiling water taps is common and a filter or softener is worth thinking about. Fen roads and farm tracks can be narrow for delivery lorries, and city-centre terraces often have permit parking and no rear access for long worktops.

Rules for kitchen work in Cambridgeshire

Fitting a new kitchen does not need planning permission in England. Listed building consent may be needed if the building is listed, and a new vent through the outside wall of a flat may need planning permission and the freeholder's consent. Electrical work must meet BS 7671, and new circuits or a new consumer unit are notifiable under Part P, so they are certified through a competent person scheme or building control. New extraction should be designed to Approved Document F rates (about 30 litres per second for a hood ducted outside), a refit should not leave ventilation worse than before, and only Gas Safe registered engineers may connect a gas hob.

Listed houses in historic centres such as Cambridge and Ely may need consent for internal changes or a new vent, although a straightforward kitchen fit needs no planning permission.

Questions about kitchen fitting in Cambridgeshire

How much does kitchen fitting cost in Cambridgeshire?

Fitting a medium kitchen you have already bought costs around £2,700 to £3,800 including VAT in Cambridgeshire, based on prices in the East of England. A mid-range kitchen supplied and fitted costs around £19,400 to £38,000. Your price is fixed in writing after a free survey visit.

Which towns in Cambridgeshire do you cover?

We cover the whole of Cambridgeshire, including Peterborough, Cambridge, Wisbech, St Neots, Huntingdon and March. If your town is not listed, send us your postcode.

Do you remove the old kitchen?

Yes. Removing the old kitchen is usually part of the job: units, worktops, appliances and, where agreed, old tiles. Gas is capped by a Gas Safe registered engineer and circuits made safe by an electrician first. Waste and packaging go through licensed waste routes, and removal is shown as its own line in your quote.

Can I use my kitchen while it is being fitted?

Not for most of the job. Once the old kitchen comes out there is no sink or cooker until the new ones are connected, usually around one to two weeks for a typical refit. We tell you in advance which days the water and power will be off, so you can set up a temporary kitchen elsewhere in the house.
