Kitchen worktop fitting in Southampton
We take on kitchen worktop fitting in Southampton and the surrounding SO15 postcodes, working to a written scope so you know exactly what is included before anyone starts.

Why do people in Southampton choose kitchen worktop fitting?
If your Hampshire kitchen still has a dated tiled or laminate surface, new worktops often go in with a new sink, tap and splashback at the same time.
If you have bought a kitchen online for your Southampton home, you may need a fitter to cut and joint the laminate or wood worktops properly on site. We work throughout Southampton (SO15) and across the wider Hampshire area.
What is in a typical job?
Every kitchen is different, so we confirm the scope in writing. Most jobs of this kind include:
- Old worktops removed and taken away, with the sink and hob disconnected safely
- Undermount sink and hob cut-outs cut and finished by the stone fabricator
- Quartz, granite or sintered stone templated once the base units are fixed and level
- Free survey visit to measure the runs and check the base units are level
- Matching upstands fitted and the joint to the wall sealed
- Laminate jointed with a mason's mitre or joint strips, and every cut edge sealed

Fitting kitchens in older and newer Southampton homes
Across Hampshire you will often find Victorian terraces, 1930s semis, post-war estate houses and thatched and brick cottages, and each shapes the kitchen differently. Terraces in Southampton and Portsmouth often have a narrow back kitchen, while post-war estate houses tend to have a compact rectangular room suited to an L-shape.
Dense terraced streets can be very tight for parking, and New Forest lanes and village roads may limit the size of delivery vehicle. Water across Hampshire is mostly hard, largely from chalk sources, so limescale on taps and boiling water taps is common and a filter can help.
Do you need approval for kitchen worktop fitting in Southampton?
New worktops need no planning permission or Building Regulations approval in England. Disconnecting and reconnecting a gas hob must be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer, and an electric hob or oven goes back on its existing circuit. Moving or adding sockets above the worktop on an existing kitchen circuit is not notifiable, but it must meet BS 7671. In a listed building, check before removing any original fitted joinery.
Homes within the New Forest or South Downs national parks, listed cottages and conservation areas may need consent for a new extractor vent or alterations to historic features.
Worth knowing before the fit
- Plan the joint positions before ordering laminate, keeping them away from the sink and dishwasher, where water is most likely to sit.
- Check that full-length worktops can get into your Southampton home; long lengths need a clear, straight route through the front door and hall.
- For a Southampton kitchen with stone worktops, ask whether the upstands will be cut from the same slab so the colour and pattern match.
- Stone worktops are templated only once the base units are fixed and level, so allow one to two weeks between fitting and finishing.
Questions about kitchen worktop fitting in Southampton
How much does kitchen worktop fitting cost in Southampton?
Guide prices in Southampton are about £580 to £1,400 including VAT for laminate worktops, supplied and fitted. The final price depends on the size of the kitchen and what is moving, and is set out in an itemised written quote.
Do you cover all of Southampton?
Yes. We work across Southampton, including the SO15 postcode district, and nearby towns such as Hythe, Hampshire and Totton. Book a free survey visit and we will arrange a time that suits you.
How do I look after a solid wood worktop?
Oil it regularly and keep it away from standing water. Wood is oiled on every face before fitting and given further coats once in place, then re-oiled more often in the first months. Wipe up round the sink and tap, and do not leave wet cloths or a dripping kettle on it. It is fixed with slotted brackets so it can expand and shrink with the seasons without cracking.
How long does it take to fit new worktops?
Usually a day for laminate or solid wood in a typical kitchen, cut and jointed on site. Stone takes two visits: the fabricator templates once the base units are fixed and level, then cuts the worktops, the sink and hob openings and any drainer grooves, and fits them about one to two weeks later. In the meantime the sink is usually out of use, so plan meals around that gap.
Can I put hot pans on a quartz worktop?
It is safer not to. Quartz contains resin that can discolour or crack under sudden heat, so pans straight from the hob or oven should go on a trivet or pan stand. Granite copes better with heat but can still be marked or cracked by intense heat in one spot, and laminate and wood scorch easily. A trivet kept next to the hob protects any worktop.
