Thinking about kitchen installation in Ayr?

If you have bought a kitchen online or from a trade counter for your Ayr home, we can check the delivery against the plan and fit it properly.

Many people in Ayrshire replace a kitchen when they move in, before unpacking, so the noisy work is done while the house is still empty. Our Ayrshire coverage reaches every part of Ayr (KA7) and out towards Irvine.

What is included in the work?

After the survey visit we write the scope down. For kitchen installation in Ayr it usually covers:

  • Removal and disposal of the old kitchen, with gas and electrics made safe
  • Gas hobs connected only by Gas Safe registered engineers
  • Base, wall and tall units fixed, levelled and secured to the wall
  • Panels, plinths, cornice, splashback and a final check before handover
  • Worktops cut, jointed and sealed, or templated for stone
  • First-fix electrics and plumbing for the new layout

Kitchens in homes around Ayr

The housing mix across Ayrshire includes red sandstone villas, sandstone tenement flats, four-in-a-block flats and post-war council-built houses, so no two kitchen fits are quite alike. Four-in-a-block flats and ex-council houses often have a small galley kitchen, while sandstone villas in Ayr tend to have a larger kitchen with a separate dining room.

Ayrshire's mains water is soft, so limescale is rarely a problem and taps, sinks and boiling water taps tend to stay cleaner. Upper four-in-a-block flats usually have their own stair, and coastal towns can have limited parking, so the route for long worktops is checked at the survey.

Regulations for kitchen work in Ayr

In Scotland, replacing kitchen fitments, adding an extractor fan and most electrical work in a house do not need a building warrant, but the work must still meet the building standards and BS 7671, so ask for an Electrical Installation Certificate. Removing a load-bearing wall or changing how waste water is discharged needs a warrant first. Gas hobs must be connected by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Every home in Scotland must have an interlinked heat alarm in the kitchen, so it is kept or refitted, and tested, as part of the job.

Listed sandstone villas and conservation areas in older town centres may need consent for a new external vent, and flat owners may need neighbours' agreement for shared walls.

Getting the most from your kitchen installation

  • If you live in a flat in Ayr, check building rules on working hours, lift protection and parking for the fitting van.
  • Check that your Ayr delivery can reach the kitchen: tall larder units and long worktops need clear access through doors and stairs.
  • Clear the room and the route to it before fitting day, and arrange somewhere in your Ayr home for a kettle and microwave.
  • If the house was built before 2000, consider an asbestos survey before strip-out, especially with textured ceilings or old floor tiles.

Questions about kitchen installation in Ayr

How much does kitchen installation cost in Ayr?

Kitchen installation in Ayr typically costs £1,400 to £2,400 including VAT for a small kitchen of 5 to 10 units, fit only, based on prices in Scotland. Larger or more involved jobs cost more, and your price is fixed in writing after a free survey visit.

Which parts of Ayr do you work in?

All of them. Our Ayrshire coverage takes in the whole of Ayr, including the KA7 postcode district, as well as surrounding towns such as Irvine. If you are unsure, send us your postcode.

Can I use my kitchen during the installation?

Not for most of it. Once the old kitchen comes out there is no sink or cooker until the new one is connected, usually a week or two for an average kitchen. We plan the job so the water and power are off for as little time as possible, and we tell you which days will be the most disruptive.

Will you fit a kitchen I have bought myself?

Yes. We fit kitchens bought from any retailer, trade counter or online supplier, flat-pack or rigid. On the survey we check the plan, and before fitting we check the delivery against it. Missing or damaged parts are for the supplier to replace, and we tell you straight away so the fit can be re-planned.

What order does a kitchen installation follow?

The usual sequence is strip-out, any structural work, first-fix electrics and plumbing, plastering, base and wall units, worktops, second fix of sockets, sink, tap and appliances, then splashbacks, flooring and decorating. Some floors go down before the units and some after, depending on the floor type, which we agree at the survey.
