Who usually needs fit-only kitchen fitting in Lanarkshire?

Some Lanarkshire households have a kitchen waiting in a spare room after a fitter dropped out, and need the boxes checked and the fit planned again from the start.

People in Lanarkshire who have bought from a trade counter often want a fitter who will check the plan against the room before any boxes are opened.

Kitchens in homes across Lanarkshire

You will find sandstone tenement flats, four-in-a-block flats, new town houses and interwar council-built semis throughout Lanarkshire. New-town houses in East Kilbride and Cumbernauld often have a compact galley, while tenement and four-in-a-block flats tend to have a small kitchen off the hall or at the back.

Lanarkshire's mains water is soft, so limescale is rarely an issue and taps, sinks and boiling water taps tend to stay cleaner. Common stairs in tenements and upper four-in-a-block flats mean units are carried by hand, while new-town estates may have parking courts some distance from the door.

Removing a partition between the kitchen and dining area is a common new-town project, subject to a building warrant if the wall is load-bearing. Ex-council semis often need a full strip-out with new wiring, more sockets and a layout that makes better use of the space by the back door.

Rules for fit-only kitchen fitting in Lanarkshire

In Scotland, fitting kitchen units you have bought does not need a building warrant, and nor does most electrical work in a house, but the work must still meet the building standards and BS 7671. Ask the electrician for an Electrical Installation Certificate or Minor Works Certificate. Gas hobs and cookers must be connected by a Gas Safe registered engineer, and the kitchen should keep extract ventilation that meets standard 3.14.

The New Lanark World Heritage Site, other listed buildings and conservation areas may need consent for new vents, and flat owners may need neighbours' agreement.

Before you start

  • Measure integrated appliances against the housings on the plan, including ventilation gaps, before buying them separately from the kitchen.
  • Check the order includes filler panels, end panels, plinths, cornice or light rail, and enough legs and plinth clips for every base unit.
  • Worktop joint strips or connector bolts, appliance door-fixing kits and the sink, tap and waste are easy to leave off an order.
  • Do not open or assemble anything before the survey; sealed boxes make it far easier to claim missing or damaged parts from the supplier.
  • Order handles in the right quantity with one or two spares; doors and drawers cannot be finished without them, and missing handles hold up sign-off.
  • Book the fit for a date after the full delivery has arrived in Lanarkshire; a split delivery is a common reason for a fit stalling halfway.

Questions about fit-only kitchen fitting in Lanarkshire

How much does fit-only kitchen fitting cost in Lanarkshire?

Fit-only kitchen fitting in Lanarkshire typically costs £1,400 to £2,400 including VAT for a small kitchen of 5 to 10 units, based on prices in Scotland. Larger or more involved jobs cost more, and your price is fixed in writing after a free survey visit.

Do you cover the whole of Lanarkshire?

Yes. We carry out fit-only kitchen fitting across Lanarkshire, including East Kilbride, Hamilton, Cumbernauld and Coatbridge. Every job starts with a free survey visit and an itemised written quote.

What does fit-only kitchen fitting not include?

It does not include stone worktops, new electrical circuits, moved plumbing, gas connections, tiling, flooring or plastering. Stone is templated and fitted by the stone supplier or fabricator once the base units are fixed. Fit only covers the labour for units, doors, panels, plinths and laminate worktops, with connections to the points already in place. Any of the extras can be added as separate lines on the same written quote.

What happens if parts of my kitchen are missing or damaged?

Missing or damaged parts are the supplier's to replace. We check the delivery against your plan and delivery note before fitting starts and tell you straight away if anything is short, broken or wrong, so you can raise it with the supplier while we re-plan the order of work. Units that do not depend on the missing part can often still go in, and sealed boxes make any claim simpler.

Should I unpack my kitchen before the fitter arrives?

No. Leave everything in its packaging until fitting day. Sealed boxes protect doors and panels from knocks and dust, keep small parts with the right unit, and show that any damage happened before delivery. We open and check the boxes against the plan as the fit begins. The one exception is anything your supplier asks you to inspect on delivery, which you should check and report within their deadline.
