Kitchen fitters in the West Midlands

We fit kitchens across the West Midlands: kitchens you have bought from any supplier, or complete kitchens we design, supply and fit, with every trade booked in the right order. Many 1930s semis have a small kitchen beside a separate dining room, and opening them into one space is a common project. In a Victorian terrace, the galley often leads to a rear bathroom, so changes may involve plumbing as well as units.

Kitchens in homes across the West Midlands

Typical properties here include Victorian terraces, 1930s semis, post-war council-built houses and post-war flats and maisonettes. Victorian terraces often have a long galley behind the back room, while 1930s semis across Birmingham and the Black Country tend to have a small kitchen at the rear.

Birmingham's water is relatively soft, while much of the Black Country and Coventry is harder, so check your supplier's hardness figure before choosing a filter. Busy terraced streets, permit parking near town centres and blocks with shared lifts can each affect delivery times and how worktops reach the kitchen.

Rules for kitchen work in the West Midlands

Fitting a new kitchen does not need planning permission in England. Listed building consent may be needed if the building is listed, and a new vent through the outside wall of a flat may need planning permission and the freeholder's consent. Electrical work must meet BS 7671, and new circuits or a new consumer unit are notifiable under Part P, so they are certified through a competent person scheme or building control. New extraction should be designed to Approved Document F rates (about 30 litres per second for a hood ducted outside), a refit should not leave ventilation worse than before, and only Gas Safe registered engineers may connect a gas hob.

Conservation areas and listed buildings, including parts of Birmingham and Solihull, may need consent for new vents, and flat owners usually need the freeholder's consent first.

Questions about kitchen fitting in the West Midlands

How much does kitchen fitting cost in the West Midlands?

Fitting a medium kitchen you have already bought costs around £2,500 to £3,500 including VAT in the West Midlands, based on prices in the West Midlands. A mid-range kitchen supplied and fitted costs around £18,000 to £35,000. Your price is fixed in writing after a free survey visit.

Which towns in the West Midlands do you cover?

We cover the whole of the West Midlands, including Birmingham, Coventry, Wolverhampton, Dudley, Walsall and Solihull. If your town is not listed, send us your postcode.

Do I need building regulations approval or certificates for a new kitchen?

Fitting units does not need approval, but parts of the job may. Electrical work is tested and certified to BS 7671, and notifiable work in England and Wales is notified through a registered competent person scheme or building control. Gas work is done by Gas Safe registered engineers. For load-bearing walls we arrange building control approval, or a building warrant in Scotland.

Is the survey visit free?

Yes. The survey visit is free and there is no obligation to go ahead. We measure the room, check the walls, floors and the positions of the gas, water, waste and electrics, and for fit-only jobs check what has been bought. You then receive an itemised written quote.
