Kitchen fitters in Powys
We fit kitchens across Powys: kitchens you have bought from any supplier, or complete kitchens we design, supply and fit, with every trade booked in the right order. Rural farmhouses are often off the gas grid, so the kitchen may be planned around an oil or solid-fuel range or induction cooking. Many cottages have thick stone walls and low beams that shape where tall units and extraction can go.
Kitchens in homes across Powys
Typical properties here include stone farmhouses, timber-framed cottages, Victorian terraces and post-war bungalows. Farmhouses and stone cottages often have a large older kitchen or a small lean-to, while Victorian terraces in Brecon and Llandrindod Wells tend to have a narrow back galley.
Powys mains water is generally soft, though many rural homes rely on private supplies, which may need testing and filtering before a boiling water tap is fitted. Long distances, single-track roads and farm tracks can limit delivery vehicles, so worktop lengths, delivery times and waste removal need planning well ahead.
Rules for kitchen work in Powys
In Wales, fitting a kitchen does not need planning permission, though a listed building may need listed building consent. Part P is wider than in England: extending an existing circuit within a kitchen is notifiable, as well as new circuits and consumer units, so most kitchen electrics are certified through a competent person scheme or building control. New extraction should be designed to the Welsh Approved Document F rates, a refit should not leave ventilation worse than before, and gas work is for Gas Safe registered engineers only.
Homes inside Bannau Brycheiniog National Park, listed buildings and conservation areas may need consent for a new external vent or changes to historic features.

Questions about kitchen fitting in Powys
How much does kitchen fitting cost in Powys?
Fitting a medium kitchen you have already bought costs around £2,300 to £3,200 including VAT in Powys, based on prices in Wales. A mid-range kitchen supplied and fitted costs around £16,600 to £32,000. Your price is fixed in writing after a free survey visit.
Which towns in Powys do you cover?
We cover the whole of Powys, including Newtown, Brecon, Welshpool and Llandrindod Wells. If your town is not listed, send us your postcode.
How long does it take to fit a kitchen?
Usually three to twelve days on site: three to five for a small kitchen, five to eight for a medium one and eight to twelve for a large one. Stone worktops are fitted about one to two weeks after templating, and new plaster needs three to six weeks to dry before full decorating.
What if there is asbestos in my kitchen?
Homes built before 2000 may contain asbestos, for example in textured ceiling coatings, old floor tiles, some boiler cupboard boards and bitumen pads under old steel sinks. If your home is that age, an asbestos survey before strip-out is sensible. If asbestos is suspected or found, that area is left undisturbed until it has been tested and dealt with properly.
