Kitchen worktop fitting in Cromer
Whether your Cromer kitchen is a narrow galley or an open-plan room, kitchen worktop fitting follows the same careful order: survey, written scope, fit and a final check together.

When does kitchen worktop fitting make sense in Cromer?
If you have bought a kitchen online for your Cromer home, you may need a fitter to cut and joint the laminate or wood worktops properly on site.
If your Norfolk kitchen still has a dated tiled or laminate surface, new worktops often go in with a new sink, tap and splashback at the same time. Cromer sits about 21 miles north of Norwich, and our Norfolk coverage takes in everything in between.
What is in a typical job?
Here is what usually goes into kitchen worktop fitting, adjusted to your Cromer kitchen after we have measured it:
- Quartz, granite or sintered stone templated once the base units are fixed and level
- Old worktops removed and taken away, with the sink and hob disconnected safely
- Solid wood oiled before and after fitting and fixed to allow seasonal movement
- Undermount sink and hob cut-outs cut and finished by the stone fabricator
- Laminate jointed with a mason's mitre or joint strips, and every cut edge sealed
- Matching upstands fitted and the joint to the wall sealed

Fitting kitchens in older and newer Cromer homes
You will find flint and brick cottages, Victorian terraces, post-war bungalows and converted barns throughout Norfolk. Flint and brick cottages often have a small kitchen in a rear lean-to, while bungalows across the county usually have a square kitchen beside a separate dining room.
Norfolk's water is hard across most of the county, so limescale on taps and boiling water taps is common and a softener or filter can help. Rural roads, farm tracks and narrow coastal village streets can restrict delivery lorries, so long worktops may need a smaller vehicle or a planned drop-off.
Building regulations, electrics and gas in Cromer
New worktops need no planning permission or Building Regulations approval in England. Disconnecting and reconnecting a gas hob must be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer, and an electric hob or oven goes back on its existing circuit. Moving or adding sockets above the worktop on an existing kitchen circuit is not notifiable, but it must meet BS 7671. In a listed building, check before removing any original fitted joinery.
Homes within the Broads, listed cottages and conservation areas in market towns and coastal villages may need consent for a new external vent or alterations to historic features.
Getting the most from your kitchen worktop fitting
- If your Cromer kitchen has a gas hob, a Gas Safe registered engineer needs to disconnect it before the old worktops come off.
- Keep a trivet beside the hob from the first day, whichever surface you choose; heat marks are hard to repair on most materials.
- Check that full-length worktops can get into your Cromer home; long lengths need a clear, straight route through the front door and hall.
- Plan the joints: keep laminate joints away from the sink where possible, while stone joints are positioned by the fabricator to suit the slabs.
Questions about kitchen worktop fitting in Cromer
How much does kitchen worktop fitting cost in Cromer?
Guide prices in Cromer are about £540 to £1,300 including VAT for laminate worktops, supplied and fitted. The final price depends on the size of the kitchen and what is moving, and is set out in an itemised written quote.
Do you cover all of Cromer?
Yes. We work across Cromer, including the NR27 postcode district, and nearby towns such as Norwich and East Dereham. Book a free survey visit and we will arrange a time that suits you.
How are laminate worktops joined at corners?
With either a mason's mitre or a joint strip. A mason's mitre is routed with a jig so the front edge profile turns the corner, then glued, sealed and pulled tight with connector bolts underneath. A joint strip is a metal or colour-matched profile fixed and sealed between the two lengths. Either way, every cut edge, including the sink and hob cut-outs, is sealed so water cannot swell the core.
How long does it take to fit new worktops?
Usually a day for laminate or solid wood in a typical kitchen, cut and jointed on site. Stone takes two visits: the fabricator templates once the base units are fixed and level, then cuts the worktops, the sink and hob openings and any drainer grooves, and fits them about one to two weeks later. In the meantime the sink is usually out of use, so plan meals around that gap.
Can I put hot pans on a quartz worktop?
It is safer not to. Quartz contains resin that can discolour or crack under sudden heat, so pans straight from the hob or oven should go on a trivet or pan stand. Granite copes better with heat but can still be marked or cracked by intense heat in one spot, and laminate and wood scorch easily. A trivet kept next to the hob protects any worktop.
