Who usually needs hob and oven installation in Forth Valley?

If your Forth Valley kitchen has an old ceramic hob with a cracked top, an induction replacement may fit the same cut-out, though the circuit still needs checking.

If the oven in your Forth Valley kitchen has failed, a like-for-like built-in replacement is usually a short job, provided the new model fits the existing housing.

What does hob and oven installation in Forth Valley include?

Your written quote lists everything included. For hob and oven installation, that normally means:

  • Appliance models checked against worktop cut-outs, oven housings and existing supplies
  • Laminate and wood worktop cut-outs made to the hob template; stone cut-outs by the fabricator
  • Gas hobs and cookers connected and tightness tested by a Gas Safe registered engineer
  • Induction and ceramic hobs wired to a suitable cooker circuit and tested
  • Built-in single and double ovens fixed into housings with their ventilation gaps
  • Range cookers levelled, with a stability bracket fitted to gas and dual-fuel models
  • Gas supply moved to a new hob position, with pipework tested and made good
  • Old hob or oven disconnected safely and taken away for recycling

How much does hob and oven installation cost in Forth Valley?

The figures below are guide prices for Forth Valley, including VAT and adjusted for typical costs across Scotland. The fixed price comes after we have measured up. Labour rates in Scotland are generally lower than in London and the South East, so these ranges are a little below the national guide.

Kitchens in homes across Forth Valley

You will find sandstone tenement flats, Victorian villas, post-war council-built houses and new-build estates throughout Forth Valley. Tenement flats in Stirling and Falkirk often have a small kitchen off the hall, while post-war houses and new-builds tend to have compact rectangular rooms.

Expect soft mains water across Forth Valley, which means little limescale on taps, sinks and boiling water taps. Stirling's older streets can be steep with limited parking, and rural roads towards the Trossachs are narrow, so delivery vehicle size and timing are planned ahead.

Victorian villa kitchens often sit in a former scullery, and opening one into the dining room needs a building warrant if the wall is load-bearing. Ex-council houses frequently need a full strip-out with new electrics, plumbing, more storage and an asbestos check on older floor tiles before work starts.

Rules for hob and oven installation in Forth Valley

In Scotland, gas hobs, cookers and pipework must be fitted and tested by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Replacing a hob or oven, or adding a cooker circuit in a house, does not normally need a building warrant, but the electrics must meet building standards 4.5 and 4.6 and BS 7671. Ask for an Electrical Installation Certificate for any new circuit.

Parts of the Stirling area lie within Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, and listed buildings in older town centres may need consent for new vents.

Before you start

  • Follow the hood and hob manufacturers' instructions on the minimum distance between them; gas hobs usually need more clearance than induction.
  • A range cooker needs a level, firm floor and, for gas and dual-fuel models, a stability bracket so it cannot tip when the door is loaded.
  • If the new hob sits away from the existing gas supply, allow for a new pipe run by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
  • Measure the oven housing against the installation dimensions, including the ventilation gaps at the back or base that the manufacturer requires.
  • Measure the gap for a range cooker at worktop height and at floor level, as older walls and thick skirting can narrow the space more than expected.
  • If your Forth Valley home has an open-flued gas appliance, mention it at the survey, because any new extraction above the hob will need a spillage test.

Questions about hob and oven installation in Forth Valley

How much does hob and oven installation cost in Forth Valley?

Hob and oven installation in Forth Valley typically costs £110 to £280 including VAT for connecting a gas hob to an existing supply, based on prices in Scotland. Larger or more involved jobs cost more, and your price is fixed in writing after a free survey visit.

Do you cover the whole of Forth Valley?

Yes. We carry out hob and oven installation across Forth Valley, including Stirling, Falkirk, Alloa and Grangemouth. Every job starts with a free survey visit and an itemised written quote.

Do built-in ovens need ventilation?

Yes. Built-in ovens release heat, and their installation instructions set the gaps and openings the housing must leave, often at the back or beneath the oven. Blocking them can overheat the surrounding units and the oven's own controls. An oven under the worktop and one in a tall housing have different requirements, so we check the instructions for your model before fitting.

Why does a range cooker need a stability bracket?

Because a range cooker can tip forward if weight is put on an open oven door, which could damage the gas connection or injure someone. Gas and dual-fuel models are secured with a stability bracket or chain to the wall or floor behind, as the manufacturer specifies, and the cooker is levelled on a firm floor so its doors close properly and pans sit flat.

Who is allowed to connect a gas hob?

By law, anyone who carries out gas work for payment must be on the Gas Safe Register, in Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and anyone working on gas must be competent to do it. We only use Gas Safe registered engineers, and we strongly advise against fitting a gas hob yourself. The engineer connects the hob, tests the installation for tightness, checks the burners and the room's ventilation, and leaves the appliance safe to use. You can ask to see the engineer's Gas Safe ID card before work starts.
