Fit-only kitchen fitting in Penarth

When does fit-only kitchen fitting make sense in Penarth?

Plenty of homeowners in Penarth buy a kitchen in a sale or from an online supplier, then look for someone to fit it once the delivery date is booked.

People in South Glamorgan who have bought from a trade counter often want a fitter who will check the plan against the room before any boxes are opened. We work throughout Penarth (CF64) and across the wider South Glamorgan area.

What does fit-only kitchen fitting in Penarth include?

Every kitchen is different, so we confirm the scope in writing. Most jobs of this kind include:

Sink, tap and appliances connected to the existing water, waste and power points
Base, wall and tall units positioned, levelled on their legs and fixed to the wall
Packaging and offcuts cleared, with removal of the old kitchen available as an extra
Doors and drawer fronts hung and adjusted, with handles drilled and fitted
End panels, filler panels, plinths, cornice and light rail scribed and fitted
Delivery checked against the plan and delivery note before fitting starts

What does fit-only kitchen fitting cost in Penarth?

Typical fit-only kitchen fitting prices for homes in Penarth, including VAT and adjusted for Wales. Your own figure depends on the size of the kitchen, the layout and what is moving. Prices in Wales usually come in below the national guide, as labour rates are lower than in the South East.

What kind of kitchens do we fit in Penarth?

The housing mix across South Glamorgan includes Victorian terraces, Edwardian villas, post-war estate houses and waterfront apartments, so no two kitchen fits are quite alike. Cardiff's Victorian terraces often have a long galley in the back addition, while Edwardian villas in Penarth may have a separate kitchen and breakfast room.

Much of South Glamorgan has soft to moderately soft water, though some parts are harder, so check with your supplier before choosing a filter. Busy on-street parking in terraced areas and apartment blocks with booked lifts can affect delivery times and how long worktops are carried in.

Building regulations, electrics and gas in Penarth

In Wales a fit-only kitchen needs no planning permission, though a listed building may need listed building consent. The electrics are where Wales differs: extending an existing circuit within a kitchen is notifiable under Part P, as are new circuits, so even an extra socket for an appliance is certified through a competent person scheme or building control. Gas hobs are connected by Gas Safe registered engineers only, and extraction should meet Approved Document F.

Listed buildings and conservation areas, including parts of Cardiff and Penarth, may need consent for new vents, and apartment owners usually need the freeholder's consent.

Planning ahead

Photograph each pallet and any damaged box as it arrives at your Penarth address, and note the damage on the delivery note before the driver leaves.
Ask your supplier for the full order list as well as the plan, so the fitter can check part numbers and not just unit sizes.
If you buy a worktop for a Penarth kitchen yourself, check its length covers the longest run plus enough spare for joints and end trims.
Do not open or assemble anything before the survey; sealed boxes make it far easier to claim missing or damaged parts from the supplier.

Questions about fit-only kitchen fitting in Penarth

How much does fit-only kitchen fitting cost in Penarth?

Fit-only kitchen fitting in Penarth typically costs £1,400 to £2,300 including VAT for a small kitchen of 5 to 10 units, based on prices in Wales. Larger or more involved jobs cost more, and your price is fixed in writing after a free survey visit.

Do you work near Penarth as well?

Yes. As well as Penarth itself, we cover the rest of South Glamorgan and nearby towns such as Cardiff and Barry. The process is the same wherever the kitchen is.

What does fit-only kitchen fitting not include?

It does not include stone worktops, new electrical circuits, moved plumbing, gas connections, tiling, flooring or plastering. Stone is templated and fitted by the stone supplier or fabricator once the base units are fixed. Fit only covers the labour for units, doors, panels, plinths and laminate worktops, with connections to the points already in place. Any of the extras can be added as separate lines on the same written quote.

Do I need to order anything extra for a fit-only job?

Often, yes. Retail plans regularly leave out filler panels, end panels, plinths, cornice or light rail, legs and plinth clips, worktop joint strips or connector bolts, appliance door-fixing kits and the sink, tap and waste. On the survey we go through your order line by line and list anything missing, so it can be ordered before the fit rather than halting it halfway through.

What happens if parts of my kitchen are missing or damaged?

Missing or damaged parts are the supplier's to replace. We check the delivery against your plan and delivery note before fitting starts and tell you straight away if anything is short, broken or wrong, so you can raise it with the supplier while we re-plan the order of work. Units that do not depend on the missing part can often still go in, and sealed boxes make any claim simpler.
