Kitchen fitters in Cumbria
We fit kitchens across Cumbria: kitchens you have bought from any supplier, or complete kitchens we design, supply and fit, with every trade booked in the right order. In an older stone cottage, the job often involves thick walls, uneven floors and limited daylight, which affects the layout and the lighting plan. Owners of converted barns and farmhouses often want a larger kitchen with a range cooker, so the gas or electrical supply may need checking first.
Kitchens in homes across Cumbria
Typical properties here include stone-built cottages, Victorian terraces, post-war semis and converted farm buildings. Stone cottages often have a small kitchen in a rear outshut or lean-to, while terraces in Carlisle and Barrow tend to have a narrow galley behind the back room.
Soft water is the norm across most of Cumbria, so limescale is less of a concern and taps and boiling water taps tend to stay cleaner. Fell roads, narrow village lanes and farm tracks can limit the size of delivery vehicle, so worktop lengths and delivery times may need careful planning.
Rules for kitchen work in Cumbria
Fitting a new kitchen does not need planning permission in England. Listed building consent may be needed if the building is listed, and a new vent through the outside wall of a flat may need planning permission and the freeholder's consent. Electrical work must meet BS 7671, and new circuits or a new consumer unit are notifiable under Part P, so they are certified through a competent person scheme or building control. New extraction should be designed to Approved Document F rates (about 30 litres per second for a hood ducted outside), a refit should not leave ventilation worse than before, and only Gas Safe registered engineers may connect a gas hob.
Homes inside the Lake District National Park, along with listed buildings and conservation areas elsewhere, may need consent for a new extractor vent or changes to historic features.
