What kind of kitchens do we fit in Shaftesbury?

Across Dorset you will often find thatched cottages, Victorian and Edwardian villas, 1930s semis and seaside bungalows, and each shapes the kitchen differently. Edwardian villas in Bournemouth often have a separate kitchen and scullery, while 1930s semis and bungalows tend to have a compact room at the back.

Most of Dorset has hard water, so limescale on taps, sinks and boiling water taps is common, and a scale-reducing filter can help. Flats in converted villas may have no lift and shared hallways, and narrow village lanes can make delivering long worktops difficult.

Regulations for kitchen work in Shaftesbury

A supplied and fitted kitchen needs no planning permission in England, except where listed building consent applies or a new vent is cut through the outside wall of a flat. New circuits and consumer units are notifiable under Part P and certified through a competent person scheme or building control. Cooker hoods are planned to meet Approved Document F, and gas hobs are connected by Gas Safe registered engineers.

Thatched and listed cottages may need listed building consent for internal changes, and owners of flats in converted houses usually need the freeholder's consent before work starts.

Planning ahead

Bring photos of kitchens you like to the survey; they help turn a general idea into specific door styles, colours and worktop choices.
Decide whether you want a boiling water tap or an induction hob before the plan is drawn, as each can need power or plumbing planned in.
Ask for the lead time on your chosen range before setting a fitting date for your Shaftesbury home, as premium ranges can take several months.
Settle the specification before the order is placed, because changing doors, worktops or layout afterwards can add cost and several weeks.

Questions about supply and fit kitchens in Shaftesbury

How much do supply and fit kitchens cost in Shaftesbury?

Guide prices in Shaftesbury are about £8,200 to £18,500 including VAT for a budget kitchen, supplied and fitted. The final price depends on the size of the kitchen and what is moving, and is set out in an itemised written quote.

Do you work near Shaftesbury as well?

Yes. As well as Shaftesbury itself, we cover the rest of Dorset and nearby towns such as Blandford Forum and Warminster. The process is the same wherever the kitchen is.

What are the payment terms for a supply and fit kitchen?

Payment terms are set out in your written quote before anything is ordered, so you know exactly what is due and at which stage. They depend on the range and the scope of work, and nothing is ordered until you have read and agreed them. If any part of the schedule is unclear, ask about it before you sign rather than after the order has been placed.

Is kitchen design included when you supply the kitchen?

Yes. The measured survey, layout plan and specification are part of the supply-and-fit price rather than a separate charge. You see the layout, door and worktop choices and appliance positions before ordering, and changes are made at the planning stage, when they are simple to redraw. The agreed plan is what we order from and what the fitters work to.

Who is responsible if a supplied part is wrong or damaged?

We are. Because we order the kitchen and take delivery, we check every item against the plan and deal with the supplier directly if anything is missing, damaged or wrong. You do not have to chase a retailer while a fitter waits on site. If a replacement affects the timetable, we tell you and re-plan the order of work around it.
