Kitchen installation in Hertfordshire
Our kitchen installation work covers the whole of Hertfordshire, including Watford, Hemel Hempstead and Stevenage.
Is kitchen installation right for your Hertfordshire kitchen?
A new layout is a common reason to change kitchens in Hertfordshire: moving the sink under the window, adding an island or opening up to the dining room.
Many people in Hertfordshire replace a kitchen when they move in, before unpacking, so the noisy work is done while the house is still empty.
What does kitchen installation in Hertfordshire include?
Every kitchen is different, so we confirm the scope in writing. Most jobs of this kind include:
- Free survey visit, measurements and an itemised written quote
- Removal and disposal of the old kitchen, with gas and electrics made safe
- First-fix electrics and plumbing for the new layout
- Base, wall and tall units fixed, levelled and secured to the wall
- Worktops cut, jointed and sealed, or templated for stone
- Sink, tap and integrated appliances fitted and connected
- Gas hobs connected only by Gas Safe registered engineers
- Panels, plinths, cornice, splashback and a final check before handover
How much does kitchen installation cost in Hertfordshire?
The figures below are guide prices for Hertfordshire, including VAT and adjusted for typical costs across the East of England. The fixed price comes after we have measured up. Prices in the East of England usually run above the national guide, mainly because labour and parking cost more.
| Typical project | Guide price |
|---|---|
| Small kitchen, 5–10 units, fit onlyYour units fitted, laminate worktop, sink and appliance connections | £1,600–£2,700 |
| Medium kitchen, 10–15 units, fit onlyAs above, for a typical family kitchen | £2,700–£3,800 |
| Large kitchen, 15+ units or an island, fit onlyTall larders, island, more cut-outs and panels | £3,800–£4,900 |
| Mid-range kitchen, supplied and fittedRigid units, quartz or solid wood worktops, integrated appliances, fitting and the usual trades | £19,400–£38,000 |
Fit-only guide ranges cover labour for units, laminate worktops and standard connections; stone worktops, new circuits, moved services, tiling, flooring and plastering are priced as separate lines. Prices include VAT at 20%.
Kitchens in homes across Hertfordshire
The housing mix across Hertfordshire includes 1930s semis, post-war new town houses, Victorian terraces and new-build estates, so no two kitchen fits are quite alike. Stevenage and Hemel Hempstead new-town houses often have a small galley, while 1930s semis tend to have a narrow kitchen beside the dining room.
Hertfordshire's water is very hard, mostly drawn from chalk, so limescale on taps and boiling water taps is common and a softener or filter is worth considering. Commuter-town streets often have tight parking, and estate houses with shared parking courts can mean carrying units some distance to the front door.
Removing the wall between kitchen and dining room is a common job in a 1930s semi, often with a peninsula to separate cooking from seating. New-town houses often have small kitchens that benefit from a better layout, taller wall units and integrated appliances to save floor space.
Rules for kitchen installation in Hertfordshire
Fitting a new kitchen does not need planning permission in England. Listed building consent may be needed if the building is listed, and a new vent through the outside wall of a flat may need planning permission and the freeholder's consent. Electrical work must meet BS 7671, and new circuits or a new consumer unit are notifiable under Part P, so they are certified through a competent person scheme or building control. New extraction should be designed to Approved Document F rates (about 30 litres per second for a hood ducted outside), a refit should not leave ventilation worse than before, and only Gas Safe registered engineers may connect a gas hob.
A kitchen fit needs no planning permission, but listed buildings and conservation areas, including parts of St Albans and Welwyn Garden City, may need consent for external vents.
Before you start
- Plan for one to two weeks without a working kitchen; a microwave, kettle and a temporary sink elsewhere make it easier.
- If the house was built before 2000, consider an asbestos survey before strip-out, especially with textured ceilings or old floor tiles.
- Decide where the sink, hob and dishwasher go early, because moving them later means repeating plumbing, electrics and tiling.
- Leave every box sealed until the fit; parts get lost or damaged once packaging is opened and stacked around the house.
- Order stone worktops early in the plan, as templating can only happen once the base units are fixed.
- Before you order a kitchen for your Hertfordshire home, ask for a survey so the plan is checked against real measurements, not estimates.
Questions about kitchen installation in Hertfordshire
How much does kitchen installation cost in Hertfordshire?
Kitchen installation in Hertfordshire typically costs £1,600 to £2,700 including VAT for a small kitchen of 5 to 10 units, fit only, based on prices in the East of England. Larger or more involved jobs cost more, and your price is fixed in writing after a free survey visit.
Do you cover the whole of Hertfordshire?
Yes. We carry out kitchen installation across Hertfordshire, including Watford, Hemel Hempstead, Stevenage and St Albans. Every job starts with a free survey visit and an itemised written quote.
How long does it take to install a kitchen?
Most kitchens take three to twelve days on site to fit, depending on the number of units and whether services are moving. Allow one to three weeks overall once electrics, plumbing, tiling and flooring are included, plus one to two weeks between templating and fitting if you choose stone worktops.
Can I use my kitchen during the installation?
Not for most of it. Once the old kitchen comes out there is no sink or cooker until the new one is connected, usually a week or two for an average kitchen. We plan the job so the water and power are off for as little time as possible, and we tell you which days will be the most disruptive.
Will you fit a kitchen I have bought myself?
Yes. We fit kitchens bought from any retailer, trade counter or online supplier, flat-pack or rigid. On the survey we check the plan, and before fitting we check the delivery against it. Missing or damaged parts are for the supplier to replace, and we tell you straight away so the fit can be re-planned.
