When does kitchen installation make sense in Eastleigh?

If the kitchen in your Eastleigh home is twenty years old, with tired doors and worn worktops, a full installation renews everything in one planned job.

Landlords and sellers across Hampshire often fit a new kitchen because it is one of the first rooms buyers and tenants judge a home by. If your home is in Eastleigh or close by in Southampton or Romsey, the same survey, quote and fitting process applies.

What is included in the work?

After the survey visit we write the scope down. For kitchen installation in Eastleigh it usually covers:

  • Base, wall and tall units fixed, levelled and secured to the wall
  • Gas hobs connected only by Gas Safe registered engineers
  • Free survey visit, measurements and an itemised written quote
  • Worktops cut, jointed and sealed, or templated for stone
  • First-fix electrics and plumbing for the new layout
  • Panels, plinths, cornice, splashback and a final check before handover

Kitchens in homes around Eastleigh

You will find Victorian terraces, 1930s semis, post-war estate houses and thatched and brick cottages throughout Hampshire. Terraces in Southampton and Portsmouth often have a narrow back kitchen, while post-war estate houses tend to have a compact rectangular room suited to an L-shape.

Dense terraced streets can be very tight for parking, and New Forest lanes and village roads may limit the size of delivery vehicle. Water across Hampshire is mostly hard, largely from chalk sources, so limescale on taps and boiling water taps is common and a filter can help.

Building regulations, electrics and gas in Eastleigh

Fitting a new kitchen does not need planning permission in England. Listed building consent may be needed if the building is listed, and a new vent through the outside wall of a flat may need planning permission and the freeholder's consent. Electrical work must meet BS 7671, and new circuits or a new consumer unit are notifiable under Part P, so they are certified through a competent person scheme or building control. New extraction should be designed to Approved Document F rates (about 30 litres per second for a hood ducted outside), a refit should not leave ventilation worse than before, and only Gas Safe registered engineers may connect a gas hob.

Homes within the New Forest or South Downs national parks, listed cottages and conservation areas may need consent for a new extractor vent or alterations to historic features.

Tips before you start

  • If your house in Hampshire is older, ask for the walls to be checked for level; out-of-true walls change how units and worktops are scribed.
  • If you live in a flat in Eastleigh, check building rules on working hours, lift protection and parking for the fitting van.
  • Clear the room and the route to it before fitting day, and arrange somewhere in your Eastleigh home for a kettle and microwave.
  • Plan for one to two weeks without a working kitchen; a microwave, kettle and a temporary sink elsewhere make it easier.

Questions about kitchen installation in Eastleigh

How much does kitchen installation cost in Eastleigh?

Guide prices in Eastleigh are about £1,700 to £2,900 including VAT for a small kitchen of 5 to 10 units, fit only. The final price depends on the size of the kitchen and what is moving, and is set out in an itemised written quote.

Do you cover all of Eastleigh?

Yes. We work across Eastleigh, including the SO50 postcode district, and nearby towns such as Southampton and Romsey. Book a free survey visit and we will arrange a time that suits you.

What order does a kitchen installation follow?

The usual sequence is strip-out, any structural work, first-fix electrics and plumbing, plastering, base and wall units, worktops, second fix of sockets, sink, tap and appliances, then splashbacks, flooring and decorating. Some floors go down before the units and some after, depending on the floor type, which we agree at the survey.

Will you fit a kitchen I have bought myself?

Yes. We fit kitchens bought from any retailer, trade counter or online supplier, flat-pack or rigid. On the survey we check the plan, and before fitting we check the delivery against it. Missing or damaged parts are for the supplier to replace, and we tell you straight away so the fit can be re-planned.

Do I need building regulations approval for a new kitchen?

Usually only for parts of the job. Fitting units does not need approval, but new electrical circuits are notifiable in England and Wales, removing a load-bearing wall needs approval everywhere, and in Scotland structural work needs a building warrant. Gas work must always be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
