Kitchen fitters in Cornwall
We fit kitchens across Cornwall: kitchens you have bought from any supplier, or complete kitchens we design, supply and fit, with every trade booked in the right order. Many older Cornish cottages have thick stone walls that are rarely straight, so units and worktops need scribing to fit and wall units need secure fixings. Owners of holiday lets and second homes often want a hard-wearing kitchen that is quick to clean between guests and simple for visitors to use.
Kitchens in homes across Cornwall
Typical properties here include granite and slate cottages, Victorian terraces, post-war bungalows and converted barns. Older stone cottages often have a small, low-ceilinged kitchen with uneven walls, while post-war bungalows tend to have a square kitchen beside a separate dining area.
Mains water across most of Cornwall is soft, which is kinder to taps and appliances, so heavy limescale build-up is rarely a problem. Narrow lanes, steep harbour streets and cottages with no parking outside can make delivering long worktops tricky, so delivery day needs planning in advance.
Rules for kitchen work in Cornwall
Fitting a new kitchen does not need planning permission in England. Listed building consent may be needed if the building is listed, and a new vent through the outside wall of a flat may need planning permission and the freeholder's consent. Electrical work must meet BS 7671, and new circuits or a new consumer unit are notifiable under Part P, so they are certified through a competent person scheme or building control. New extraction should be designed to Approved Document F rates (about 30 litres per second for a hood ducted outside), a refit should not leave ventilation worse than before, and only Gas Safe registered engineers may connect a gas hob.
Where a cottage is listed or sits in one of the many harbour-town conservation areas, consent may be needed before a new extractor vent is cut through an outside wall.

Questions about kitchen fitting in Cornwall
How much does kitchen fitting cost in Cornwall?
Fitting a medium kitchen you have already bought costs around £2,600 to £3,600 including VAT in Cornwall, based on prices in the South West. A mid-range kitchen supplied and fitted costs around £18,500 to £36,000. Your price is fixed in writing after a free survey visit.
Which towns in Cornwall do you cover?
We cover the whole of Cornwall, including Redruth, Falmouth, St Austell, Truro, Camborne and Newquay. If your town is not listed, send us your postcode.
How do your quotes work?
After the survey visit you receive an itemised written quote, with strip-out, units, worktops, appliances, electrics, plumbing, tiling and other work shown as separate lines. You can see exactly what is included and adjust the specification if you wish. Your price is fixed in writing once the layout, specification and scope are agreed.
What if there is asbestos in my kitchen?
Homes built before 2000 may contain asbestos, for example in textured ceiling coatings, old floor tiles, some boiler cupboard boards and bitumen pads under old steel sinks. If your home is that age, an asbestos survey before strip-out is sensible. If asbestos is suspected or found, that area is left undisturbed until it has been tested and dealt with properly.
